About Us

Our History

Genesee Valley Trust was founded in 1994 by our first client, an entrepreneur and local philanthropist who designed us to be different from the very beginning. He was unable to find an investment firm that met his high standards in service and client attention and was fascinated with the idea of developing an investment approach at a fair cost. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to start his own Trust Company that would provide individuals and families, businesses, and community organizations access to top investment managers in a cost effective manner, while providing the highest level of personal service.

Today, we’ve grown to manage more than $500 million in assets. With our founder still our client, GVT continues with his original goals of being an independent firm offering unbiased advice, free from the limitations of traditional brokerage practices. Our non-commissioned investment experts don’t sell products. They create solutions and forge relationships by partnering with clients to develop sound investment plans to accumulate, preserve, and distribute wealth across generations.

Our People

“Treating you like a member of our family.” We’ve all heard the saying, but what investment advisor really acts on it? At GVT, we sit on your side of the table, providing you with passionate care for your investments and the personal attention you deserve. We do not work on commission, we work for you. Our experienced professionals have a shared interest in your long-term financial success, partnering with you to grow and manage your assets the right way, just as we would for our own family.

Our Resources

In addition to the breadth of service that GVT provides, we have access to the resources of our affiliate, Canandaigua National Bank & Trust, the area’s only locally-owned full service bank that has been a part of our community since 1887. Together we share a history of success, active community involvement, and most importantly—the willingness to go above and beyond to serve our clients and constituents.

Our Community

GVT and its staff are deep-rooted in our community. We serve on Boards, volunteer, and support local organizations, while also working closely with thought leaders in our area who comprise our Board of Directors and Investment Advisory Group. By sharing common goals of helping our friends and neighbors, we assist in enriching the place where we live, work and play.

Our Core Values

Our founding principles define how we work with our clients to invest in and give back to our community. The core values of GVT reflect those principles and are central to how we lead our lives:
